People dress up differently every morning, but there are those days when the mode of dressing should be a bit peculiar. In other words, sometimes you will be expected to dress up in fancy and stylish clothing. If you are a high school girl, you will be expected to attend some dancing classes, and it is on such days you must choose your type of prom dress carefully. Selecting the most appealing and affordable prom dresses can be pretty tricky. However, the following tips, with examples of some incredible prom dresses, will simplify the process, and they will guide you whenever you have that special occasion.
Know Yourself
Are you tall, slender, curvy or pear-shaped? When it comes to dressing, scores of students wear clothes dictated by their peers. Even though that dazzling prom dress worn by your colleague or that magazine-cover model is appealing, it may not fit your body shape. Yes, the size might fit precisely, but you must consider whether the same dress makes you look balanced. Before you shop for that ideal prom dress, be adequately informed about your shape, colour and body style. Remember, that dress must appear official irrespective of who is wearing it.
How Long Should the Hem Be?
This will help you decide whether to wear a mini-dress or a below-the-knees prom dress. Inquire carefully from dress experts on this, and don’t forget to try prom dresses with tiny hems and those with extended ones. Remember, the type of dress, body size, and hem length should help display features like legs in the most charming way.
Your Bust
Some girls have big, rounded busts, and they should prioritize prom dresses that somehow lessen the appearance of their bottoms. For instance, they can wear a costume with a sharp waistline and avoid those that drop straight over your figure. By doing so, they can comfortably wear the bras of their choice and those fancy strapless dresses. The rule for the small bust type is to wear dresses that enhance your bust line. A good way is to go for dresses with low V-shaped necklines and accompany this with the right bra size.
Your Budget
Almost every store specializing in prom dresses discourages the return of any purchased attire. Some even put it in writing, and you should always consider buying a prom gown that suits the occasion and can be worn for a more extended period. It would be illogical to pay hundreds of dollars and never enjoy a prom outfit because you missed your size slightly.
Where to Buy
Online sources are the best because they have all the necessary information in an easy-to-navigate web page. Notwithstanding, you should ensure the online store has various prom dresses, including specific accessories, and they are good at keeping their promises. To some extent, a few online stores have been known to delay delivery of purchased items while others illegally change some specifications for your order.
Thanks a lot for these useful links! They really give ideas that we do not normally take care of too mvh. by the way, I liked the Jadore collection. It is really amazing 🙂
I liked the new collection of Jadore too. Especially the variation of colors and cloth. Also, they fit all kind of styles. The design is also amazing!
Hi, I have recently been looking for a formal gown for an evening event and it’s been really discouraging. I was really excited to go shopping at first, I’ve never owned a formal dress, but I can’t find anything. They’re either too expensive or too immodest or just not what I had in mind. Does anyone have any advice on where I could get a modest prom type dress that’s still attractive?
I just read Darlene’s comment, and I feel her pain. I have been trying to help my daughter find a modest prom dress and it’s not easy. Not long ago I chaperoned a young adult dance, and notice so many girls who appeared to be uncomfortable in their dresses – fidgeting with droopy spaghetti straps, or constantly adjusting ill fitting strapless gowns. If you’re not used to wearing a revealing style, don’t get one for prom. You want to have fun and be at ease, not worrying about showing too much skin. There are modest dresses out there, and websites which specialize in them.
Thanks for responding Library Lady – Actually after I made that comment I noticed that a couple of the Jador dresses pictured in this article are really quite modest and attractive. I especially like the black one at the top of the post. Anyway, I have looked into this line and was pleasantly surprised.
As for the comments about buying for yourself and not getting something because it looks good on your best girlfriend or, or because it’s the latest style, I couldn’t agree more.
Getting ready for prom can be just as exciting as getting ready for your wedding day. I remember my prom and now I get to help my daughter pick out a dress for her!
I like that you pointed out that we must choose a dress that we can use again on a different occasion so that we get the most out of our money. I will keep that in mind when I buy my daughter a prom dress. She will be using it a few weeks from now, and this tip is perfect because there will be an event in September wherein the attire is formal as well. This will save us money.
