My fiancé and I first met at a Verizon kiosk in coos bay Oregon, it was your typical male sales person and very distraught woman who just dropped her phone in the lake.
She was wearing a gray sweatshirt and baggy blue sweatpants, with no make-up and wet hair. She started telling me the story how she has had this whole mess of a break up a while ago and she went on and on. So I decided to just give her a free phone, I got into a lot of trouble. 2 days later I'm working and the most gorgeous girl wearing high heel boots with a skirt on hair all curled make up done started walking through the doors of the mall. As she was walking my lady co-worker looks at me and says "isn't that the girl you helped yesterday?" My response was "yea but she didn't look like that... Wow" so every day for the next week Nikki her little baby Elise, and at the time her step dad would come to my kiosk and pick my brain. Well one night Nikki was talking with me and was at the kiosk over an hour after we closed, I was getting so frustrated because I had a shift at the fire department and she was just wanting to chat. Finally she took off with the baby and step dad and as I walk to my car in front of me I see them all walking to their truck and I yell at them to stop "following me" they laughed and got in the truck. Seconds later their truck peels out in the parking lot and flys over to my truck. Matt(the step dad) rolls down the window and begins to ask me if I like drinking or playing beer pong. I didn't but answered yes. So he invites me over. As I give him my number he is saving it into his phone, at that exact moment I receive a text from an unknown number saying "and here is mine ;-)" me being the blonde I am say thanks for the number to Matt and he looks at me like "I never sent it to you". So I look past him and Nikki is just glaring at me in the driver seat like "your and idiot" we started hanging out an I fell in love with that little girl Elise who was 3 months at the time. Nikki was just a added benefit. 3 years later... I've always been one for a romantic kind of guy. So the song "marry me- train" has been a song I have refused to listen to with anyone... Guy, girl, mother, sisters whoever. If the song came on I would change it immediately because that was the song I wanted to hear with the girl I wanted to marry. So Nikki being amazing would make sure to not listen to it at all either when I was around. Well October 2012 came around and I was ready to ask her. Found the ring I wanted and had it ordered... Oct 26th was the date, I had planned it to where Nikki thought we where headed to an Oregon Duck football game the 27th. And that we were going to have dinner with an old friend of mine the 26th at the restaurant that's in the coos bay mall. So the drive their was amazing we stopped off at the beach and played in the sand and took a billion photos, she looked amazing, what she didn't know was I had some friends helping me out decorate the kiosk where we first met and I was just sparing them some time. We continued to drive down memory lane going to the old fire station I was stationed at and just all sorts of memories... It had been over three years since we where in coos bay together. So I had been in contact with the mall and they agreed that it was okay to go in after hours. So since their is a restaurant in the mall that was my excuse for going in after hours. We finally get to the mall the first door( the one I thought was unlocked) was locked and I start to freak out inside my head... She was so relaxed and started trying the other doors. So we walked over to the last door and it opened. As we walked in I grab her hand and started walking towards the kiosk, the first office on the right was the restaurant and as we pass the doors she starts saying what are we doing, As soon as she got done saying that I had the mall put "marry me" over the sound system. It took her a second to actually hear it as we continue to walk. She finally heard it and started to panic and tell me I need to plug our ears, and they need to change the song. it was so cute she just kept repeating that we can't listen, I continued to walk closer and closer to the kiosk which now was lite up by candles and Christmas lights and had rose peddles scattered all round it. In that exact moment she realized what was happening, her hands tightened around mine, her steps became very slow as if she couldn't move, her body tensed up and all she could say was "oh my god" as she began to freeze up I swung her around to the exact spot we first met... Smiled at her got down to one knee. Looked right into those teary eyes and asked her to marry me. But before I could even finish with will you marry... She frantically said yes and then froze right back up again. Our friends were able to stay hidden above us and get pictures of this moment that I and Nikki will cherish for the rest of our lives! |
