After a little over two years of dating, I finally decided to pop the question to my girlfriend, Abby, on March 10, 2013.
But it wasn't as simple as throwing the ring in the bottom of a glass of champagne or asking on a romantic carriage ride. She wanted a epic proposal. I blame YouTube mostly for letting her see all these insane, over-the-top proposals that involved dozens of people, hours of planning and a lot of hope that it would look as good as they anticipated it would! But nevertheless, I knew the bar had been raised pretty high and I had to pull out all the stops. In January, I emailed a friend who had a history of dance and asked her if she would like to help plan and choreograph a flash mob proposal for my girlfriend and she couldn't have been more thrilled to help out. After weeks of working out the details, including where we wanted to do it, what songs we wanted to play, who we were going to invite and how we were going to get Abby in the right place in the right time, it all started to come together. When March 10 finally rolled around, we had it down to a science. She unsuspectingly walked out of Dave and Buster's only to see a flash mob of people she had never met before dancing to Van Halen's 'Dancin' in the Streets.' As I knew she would, she got so excited that she got to see her first flash mob, she started dancing and grooving to music. But about a minute and half in, the music cut and nearly 100 of our friends, family and coworkers ran out from all around her, wearing matching shirts with our picture on them, and joined together and started dancing to 'Marry You' by Bruno Mars. She stared in shocked as everyone was dancing in synchronization to the song. At the end, they formed a walkway in the middle and I walked out from the back of it, got on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes. It was the coolest thing either of us have ever been a part of and we will remember it forever. (Below is the link to the video of it all.) |
