Peter and I first met on Feb. 29, 2012 (a leap year!) at a nearby Tim Hortons during Roll Up the Rim which is one of my favourite times of the year. We initially met online 5 days before and felt such a strong connection that we decided to meet in person. We stayed up really late talking the night away and only called it a night after the freezing rain started to come down strong and basically forced our date to end.
Exactly 1 year and 1 month later on Good Friday (Mar. 29, 2013), Peter organized an Easter egg hunt at his house for me. The second those pink bunny ears landed on my head and an Easter basket in the shape of an egg was around my arm I was smiling from ear to ear! I started running around the house picking up clues to the next hidden egg which contained a Cadbury egg and another clue inside telling me where to search next. I didn't realize it at the time but all the clues had to do with the family, the home and love. My hunt began in the dining room which lead me to the kitchen, then the family room, then the living room and finally to Peter's bedroom where he had a video montage set up composed of photos from our past year together including our trip to Niagara Falls, Darien Lake, and Italy and sporting events like the Jays and TFC game we attended and other memorable moments, holidays and get-togethers. He interrupted the video montage with himself on camera apologizing for the interruption which had me laughing out loud and then he asked me to grab the little bunny that was sitting in front of the TV. Peter said he never saw me move so fast before because I moved with lightning speed and grabbed hold of the bunny and the second I felt a ring box stuffed inside the bunny the waterworks started. He grabbed the ring box from my hand and got down on bended knee and asked me to marry him and I of course said yes in between the crying and shaking. I was a mess and honestly never thought I was going to be one of those girls that breaks down in tears when she got proposed to but sure enough I was and I surprised even myself with my reaction. It took me about 4 hours for my hands to stop shaking so that we could take a non-blurry photo of the ring. We celebrated with Peter's family over champagne and made all the necessary phone calls to our immediate and extended families and had our Good Friday seafood feast later on for dinner! The funny thing is, an hour before Peter picked me up to drive me to his house I had posted a photo on Facebook of my left hand to show off my Easter egg accent nail and soon after that there was a ring on it! It truly is an accent nail now!! How many soon-to-be brides can say they took a photo of their left hand an hour before they were proposed to haha. |
