During the Canada Day long weekend Tim and I had to cancel our camping trip. As our plans had been ruined we decided to have a "staycation" and fill each day with a different adventure. Sunday was my absolute favourite as we spent the entire day hiking with our dog, Chester, in the Gatineau Hills which we finished with a hike on the amazingly stunning waterfall trail.
After all the adventure and awesomeness of the "staycation", Tuesday morning I woke up and expected it to be like any other work day - just with a little less food in the fridge as we forgot to get groceries. We got up, as usual, I showered and then made our lunches while Tim took Chester outside, as usual, we left for the day and I got to work realizing I forgot my coffee, as usual. After I finished work I read while waiting for Tim to finish up work (again, as usual). On our way home Tim suggested we get something for dinner instead of try to make a meal out of what was in our fridge and freezer. Not realizing it as being a special day, I suggest subway... Extraordinary is based on ordinary after all... After eating we head home and I took Chester out while I thought Tim showered. However, unbeknownst to me while I took Chester for a walk Tim actually called my dad (I live in Ottawa but my parents live in Barrie) to ask for his blessing... And then showered. When I got back nothing seemed different or unusual even when Tim suggested we go for a car ride - a normal suggestion in our house. At the words "car ride" Chester left his food and went to the door waiting for us. Laughing we got into the car and continued to laugh as Chester stuck his head out the window and seemed to smile the entire time. As we drove through Manotick I thought we both got lost in the music we were listening to, not knowing Tim had anything serious on the brain, and assumed that we were going to visit his parents who live there. Almost literally right before his parents house Tim turned off the main road and pulled onto a side street. He pulled into a grassy alcove that had a few trees and really tall grass and cattails. On either side we had privacy because of the plant life, our car behind us made it so no one would see us from the road and in front of me was a few beautiful trees with the river just past them. It was as I was looking around and taking in the sight that Tim began to explain the significance of where we were and how important that place is to him. When I turned to look at him he began to tell me how much I mean to him and how important I am. He finished by pulling a box out of his pocket and telling me he called my dad. As he got down onto his knee, and showed me the beautiful ring he had picked out, I was so shocked I dropped Chester's leach! Tim managed to grab the leash before Chester made it to the water without even moving from his spot on the ground. I was in so much shock I forgot to say yes! Through the tears I managed to laugh as he reminded me and I said yes. We continued to laugh, as I cried, all the way back to the car. Once I got into the car I called my dad at home and then my mom at work. I think my mom's reaction was by far the best, she picked up the phone laughing and through the tears I said that Tim asked me to marry him and we're now engaged... The phone went SILENT for about 10 seconds (apparently the same thing my dad did to Tim when he asked for his blessing!) and I thought my mother had died!! My mom, speechless... Well worth the tears! Breaking the silence she said, "What do you mean engaged?". When I explained he asked dad and then me she got so excited and began to cry! By the end of the night we had more people crying from the joy of it than not! I am so excited to have someone so amazing in my life, someone to always shock and surprise me, someone to always share adventures with and someone who will always change an ordinary day into something extraordinary. |
