My fiancé, David, first dated when I was only a freshman in high school, which was nine years ago. Throughout the years we've remained attached at the hip, he is without question my best friend. Finally four years ago we became a little more serious and have been living together since. We are both in the Air Force and a few months ago I volunteered for a deployment to Iraq, leaving the beginning of August 2010. Not long after we found out that he would also be leaving, but not until three weeks before I would be returning home from Iraq. We will not see each other again until the fall of 2012, about fourteen months total. My parents decided through a going away BBQ in my honor, which I chose to celebrate with my family and close friends, on the night of July 31st, 2010. Towards the end of the night as it began to quiet, everyone gathered in their backyard around a fire, the kids were roasting marshmallows, and it seemed that the night was complete full of laughter and love. My now fiancé and I were standing next to each other talking to friends gathered around us in the glow of the fire, when all of a sudden I felt like I had all eyes locked onto me ... I turned around to David kneeling with a ring in hand. As he asked me to marry him, with all eyes watching, we both seemed to have lost all of our words, all I could do was shake my head yes, cry, and kiss him. David's friend knew the plan for the night all along and brought with him, prepared and ready, his camera to snap some pictures of the event itself. I said yes, of course. The ring is a beautiful round solitaire, simple and elegant. David and I always knew we would get married but I never thought he would have the ability to surprise me, through the years I've learned to read him like a book, but he nailed it. | |
