It started with an invitation to the prom that I never had. I walked into my room and noticed an envelope on the bed that read
"TO: Ms. Natasha Campbell FR: Mr. Michael Reid." As I opened the envelope and started to read the card, it said "You are cordially invited to your prom, on July 27th, 2013. Time: All day Location: Anywhere you want." The other side of the card read "This 1 time event has come and passed, but a 2nd chance has come at last - To get dressed up for a ball, and to be the fairest of them all. R.S.V.P with a kiss." As I went to respond with a kiss, I teared up (surprise surprise lol). I have to admit, I had a 'feeling' that my big prom night MIGHT turn into something bigger but I wasn't entirely sure. So as the days rolled by before the big night, I saw engagements, heard about weddings and kept asking myself, "what about me???" Lol. I was overjoyed for all the lucky couples this year but I was definitely waiting to hear those 4 words directed at me :) On the day of my 'Prom', I woke up around 10:30am and showered. I had 3 scheduled appointments, made by Michael. First, Michelle (Michael's sister) dropped me off to get my nails and toes all beautified. Second, my hair and last, my make-up. Each appointment I went to, I described what Michael had been planning, how excited I was and how much I love the man. He picked out my dress, my shoes and jewelry; even right down to my hairstyle and it wasn't until later on that I understood why he wanted my hair the way it was. He completely matched me in color - His tux was grey, his shirt and tie were purple. Although I was running late with every appointment, once we got to the house to change our clothes, he told me that he had changed our dinner reservations and we ended up being right on time. He repeatedly told me how beautiful I looked before we left the house; I was in complete 'awe' of him and told him the same. We arrived at the CN Tower and took a quick picture before heading up to 360. We got to the restaurant and went to our table. We talked, ate and had some wine, meanwhile in my head: "this would be the perfect time for him to propose (lol) but times flying and he should hurry up." The thought came and went as he got our bill and asked me if I wanted to go to the 'lookout' to take some pictures. Once at the 'lookout', he took a few pictures of me and I took a few of him. Just as I was about to take the last one, a text popped across his screen saying "How's dinner going". I told him who the text was from and he quickly tried to grab the phone! I let it go and we continued downstairs to the glass floor where we took more pictures, then went outside for a few minutes. Pressed for time, we had to leave the CN Tower to head over Muzik Nightclub to get our seating and meet everyone. I wanted to change outfits before going but looking back at the day, I'm happy that I stayed in my dress :) Michael and I arrived and I was ushered inside with an umbrella, while he parked the car. Up to this point I was really feeling like Ms. Prom Queen... The whole day was catered to and around me and its not something a mom of two is used to, at least not this mom. We're taken inside to our "V.I.P" area and were the first ones there. Our server makes the two of us drinks and we toast. I noticed over by the bar area, that there was a lady wearing a 'bride to be' sash, her tiara and veil, so I said to Michael "Awww, look babe! She's having her batchlorette. Lucky girl" and sighed, lol. I thought the loud music would cover up the sigh but he always hears and feels when I'm upset. He always knows when somethings up. So he looks at me, smiles and says "Awww, I won't be a frog forever" which he's said on a few occasions leading up to this day. I smirked and told him that I hoped not, haha. All of our friends and family start to arrive and we talk for a while, making jokes, taking about how awesome Michaels planning skills are, etc, etc. The last conversation I had before the event took a turn, was with one of Michaels good friends, who I've grown very close to and love dearly. She was talking about how men need to step up and marry a woman if he truly loves her, etc. I STRONGLY (lol) agreed and started getting in that 'damn men, they're too proud, too scared' mode. We finished our conversation and I went to sit between Michaels sister and sister-in law. Just as I sat down, I see huge sparklers heading toward me, along with our server. She handed me a box, I opened it and there was a tiara inside! I'm thinking " Sweet! A prom tiara!" Next, here comes a sash... Before I read it, I'm thinking "Whaaaat, I get a prom sash! Now I'm really a prom queen!" Michaels sister said "READ IT!" I started to read it (Bride To Be) and felt my heart jump outta my chest. My initial reaction... YUP, you guessed it, I BAWLED my eyes out, put down my head and bawled some more. As I popped my head up, there's Michael in front of me, on his knee, holding a beautiful heart shaped box. He opens it and finally says those 4 words I've been waiting for "Will you marry me?" Still bawling, I yell "OH MY GOD! Are you serious? BABE! Are you serious?" Duh, lol. He looks at me and yells back "YES" with a big smile. Poor guy, I must have left him hanging for at least a minute before I gave him my answer. Finally, I yelled back "YES! OF COURSE!" With that said, he put the ring on my finger and I kissed and hugged him as I bawled some more. And as we finally caught ourselves (well, as I finally caught myself), I looked up and flashing across the projector screens it said "Congratulations to the future Mr. And Mrs. Michael Reid." The night was so special to me for so many different reasons. Mikey, as I keep telling you, there aren't enough words in the world, to express how much I love you, how much I love your spirit, your personality... How much I love you as a whole. We've had our highs and lows - The highs by far outweigh the lows and you've added another amazing high to our list. The fact that you carefully and perfectly took the time to plan all of this out for me, truly shows me how much you love me. It shows me how much you wanna walk through this 'thing called life' or this journey, with me, beside me. I prayed for you, for what seems like forever and vice versa. You've made me the happiest woman alive and I'm absolutely looking forward to being your wife. You're an amazing father to the kids, and I look forward to having as many as we're blessed to have, with you. My friend, my lover, my partner in crime, I love you to the moon, "to infinity and beyond!" :) |
