Mike and I had met when I was in my last year of high school. Despite everyone telling us we were too young to be in a serious relationship we could think of any reason to part.
This September he planned a mini-vacation, and to my surprise the most romantic proposal I could imagine, to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. September 6th-8th we spent in Toronto at a music festival that was going on, spending the days eating, drinking and listening to our favorite music. On the Monday we then left Toronto to drive up to Algonquin Park to spend the rest of the week in the kitty lake ranger cabin on the lake. After three-four hours of driving we made it to Algonquin. The cabin we were staying in you had to canoe out to so we packed up all of our food and clothes and took a 45 minute canoe ride through the most beautiful forest, eventually arriving at our little cabin on the lake. By the time we made it to there and unpacked all of our stuff the sun was just starting to set. Mike then took me out on the canoe to float around the little lake off the side of our lot. There was a narrow opening to the lake that opened to trickling rapids, it was gorgeous. He brought his acoustic guitar and started playing songs he had first learned for me when we started dating ("Hey there Delilah" and "I will follow you into the dark"). After he told me he had learned a new song for me because it reminded me of him, "Something" by the Beatles. Once he was done he looked at me and told me he loved me, and I said of course I loved him too. This is when he pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him. At the time I was so surprised I could only nod while fighting back tears. After I was able to calm down I said YES! Then had him row the canoe to shore so I could properly hug and kiss him without tipping the boat. Needless to say it was the best start to vacation ever :) Every one who stayed in the cabin had left a little momentum of their stay so of course we made on too. Photo of mike and the guitar was taken moments before the proposal:) |
