Mike and I graduated highschool together but didn't start talking until 5 years later, in 2013, when I saw him at a party with a mutual friend of ours. We went fishing, out to the bar, and had a good time together until he left Maryland for his final semester at Texas Tech. We talked occasionally, went to football games when he came home, and I even visited him over Thanksgiving break. Fast forward to June of 2015 when I accepted a teaching position in Dallas. Soon after scheduling the 1200+ mile move, Mike mentioned both of our families flying down for a Texas Tech football game in the fall. This came up in conversation more and more as my moving date became closer and closer. On September 24 he flew down, followed by both sets of parents on the 25th. We arrived in Lubbock around 11 o'clock on the 26th and walked around until our parents arrived around 1. We ate lunch, shopped, and walked around campus for a little bit. We stopped for pictures in front of the medallion at the main entrance of the campus. Mike kept trying to position me a certain way so I would face him, but I wanted a hugging picture. He dropped down to his knee, pulled a ring out, and proposed while our parents recorded every second of it. It was the most amazingly romantic thing he could have possibly done. He involved our families, captured it on camera, and did it somewhere that had meaning to both of us. Saying goodbye to my fiancé at the airport this past time extremely difficult. I can't wait to marry my best friend and the love of my life so we never have to worry about living so far apart ever again. | |
