Jeremy and I have been together for 6 years now and 2 years ago we purchased our home together. Needless to say, we had planned on spending our lives together but hadn't made it official yet! In May 2010, we were planning a trip to Scotland, with my parents, my sister, my brother, and Jeremy's 7-year-old daughter, Summer. Little did I know, Jeremy, Summer, and my whole family were planning another big suprise for me!
The week before we were to leave, Jeremy and Summer went to my parents house to ask for their approval for my hand in marriage. With their approval, they worked together on a way to get the ring across the border and into Scotland without my knowing. My parents took the ring across the border for Jeremy (he didn't want to put it in the checked luggage or our shared carry-on) and they also went in a different security line at the airport incase the guards pulled it out. Then when we landed in Scotland, my sister snuck the ring to Jeremy while I was packing the car. Jeremy, Summer and I were heading south for a few days to check out the Armstrong heritage (Jeremy is an Armstrong) and the castles so we left my parents. On the 2nd day of our trip, we went to get a private tour of Gilnockie Tower, which was built and lived in my Johnnie Armstrong in 1520. This is what Jeremy had been looking forward to the entire trip as he is very interested in his Armstrong heritage. Our tour guide, Ted, was taking us up to the balcony where you could see all of Johnnie Armstrong's land. Once up there, Jeremy gave the ring box to Summer and she walked over to the far corner of the tower. She said "Daddy, come here. What's this?". So, while I was busy taking photos and videos of beautiful Scotland, Jeremy walked over to the corner and knealt down to "look". Then he said "Oh cool. Hey Leigh, come check this out". So I walked over and then then turned around on one knee with the ring box in hand and asked for my hand in marriage. After composing myself and holding back the tears, I said "yes, of course" and then we shared a kiss while overlooking beautiful Scotland with Summer jumping up and down from joy and excitment! Cheers, Leigh Spinney |
