My fiance and I met three years ago on Christmas Day, at my aunt's house. He was friends with one of my cousins, and agreed to dress up as Santa Claus and come hand out all the gifts to my family. I had never met him before this day, and was just as surprised as my little cousins when this mystery Santa walked down the stairs. Nevertheless, I didn't think anything of it at the time; however he had noticed me from a far, and asked my cousin who I was. A blind date was arranged, and the rest is history. So Christmas Day has always been special to us. Even so, I had no idea that he was ever thinking of proposing on Christmas Day, 2010. The proposal happened that day, around 6 at night. On Christmas Day, we normally spend the afternoon at my aunt's house, and then we leave around 6 or so and go over to my fiance's house to see his family. This year was the same. We spent the afternoon at my aunt's house, and then said goodbye to my whole family around 5:45, to leave to go to my fiance's house. As we are driving to his house, we pass by a park that was on the way. This parkette is so beautiful in the wintertime, because the City puts up christmas lights on all the trees, and plays music, and has other decorations as well. We discovered it 3 years ago, and we always make a point to go walking through it in the winter. As we're passing by, my fiance asks if I want to go take a walk in there before we go to his house. It was funny because at first I said "no, we're going to be late to your house!" (I hate being late, especially if people are waiting for us), but little did I know what he had planned! I end up agreeing to go for a walk, so we park and begin to walk into the little parkette. There were some arches all covered in lights that you could walk through, kind of like a tunnel. We began to walk through those, and as we're getting further into the parkette I see these signs (homemade), that say "Will You Marry Me" in Christmas lights!! Even though I am staring right at them, I still did NOT think they were for me, so I just say "Oh my gosh, that's soooooo nice!!!!", thinking that some guy had made that for his girlfriend, and I thought it was so romantic. As I'm looking at this sign, I then see that my fiance is taking out a ring and getting down on one knee... and then it FINALLY hits me what is happening! It was so crazy! I was so shocked, and just kept saying "oh my god" about 15 times before anything else could come out! I was totally blindsighted, he got me good!! Moreover, I was so surprised that he was able to keep it a secret. Apparantly he had been working on these signs for a couple of weeks, and even his brothers and my cousin were helping him through the process. They all kept the secret very well. Our proposal was beautiful, better than I could have ever imagined. After I was able to compose myself, we took some pictures of the sign, and then went back to my aunt's house (because he promised my parents that he would bring me back). We celebrated there for a bit, after everyone wiped away their tears; and then went to his house, where his family was waiting there too. Everyone was so excited, and I was so glad to have been able to celebrate with both families right after it happened. |
