Riley and I started dating in April of 2007 but have been two steps in front of each other since elementary school. Having run in the same circles and had the same friends since junior kindergarten it was only a matter of time before we would eventually start hanging around the same places at the same time, or so one would think. We were friends in the first and second grade the same way most kids are friends with everyone in their class but it would be until 12 years later that we would really get to know each other. Having reconnected in 2007 during my search for one of my other elementary school friends Riley and I started talking about all the interests we had in common. By Easter we had decided we had to give our relationship a chance to grow into something more.
Two and half years later we had talked about getting married in the future a million times but nothing had ever come of it.By thanksgiving 2009 I had figured it was not to happen for a couple of years and was so confused by all the mixed signals I had received I had given up on it happening that year. After finding a business card from our local I was more confused than ever so I confronted him about it. He said even if he was buying one which he supposedly wasn't there was a waiting list to have a custom ring done so it wouldn't be for quite sometime. After that I forgot about the whole idea of getting engaged in 2009. One day I asked Riley to stop by my dad's before he went to work for a nightshift, because he had been very cranky the day before. We stood in my dad's kitchen discussing what our plans were for the weekend since he would be working nights but still wanted to see me, just as we had decided he would pick me up on his way back to his house and we would go for breakfast together before he went back to sleep he cut the conversation short and told me he had to go get something in his truck. I watch him and he ran out to his truck in through the snow to find something when he came back in it didn't look like he had grabbed anything at all but he had the goofiest look on his face I had ever seen. Without missing a beat I asked him what his problem was, as I did he dropped to one knee pulled the small black box out of his pocket and ask me, "Amanda Kristy will you marry me." After I stopped feeling like an idiot for saying what I had I of course started to to cry and nodded incessantly until he got up and put the ring on my finger. Once I stopped saying oh my god he finally asked again for an answer, which was at that point I thought quite obvious but obliged him with a yes. We will be married a little more than 11 months after we got engaged, Saturday November 6th, 2010 in our hometown of Timmins, ON. Amanda Lepine and Riley Beamish |
