My sweetie took me on the Amazing Race!
I woke up on Valentine's Day next to my boyfriend Dan, who was already up and told me he was going to the gym which I thought to be very odd as he is not the early type. A few minutes after he left I got a text message from him saying "Happy Valentine's Day Baby, your present is at the front door. I love you xoxo". There was an Amazing Race envelope left at the front door. A flood of excitement swept over me as I ran to open the envelope. It said I was to get on a flight to Montreal at 12:15 and to attend the hotel honouring the Queen, it was 7:30 which left me only a few hours to get ready! I didn't know what I'd be doing or how long I'd be there, the whole thing was such a surprise. He quickly assured me my best friend was on her way to help and would drive me to the airport. Unbeknownst to me, Dan was already on a flight to Montreal in order to setup all the clues while I hustled to get ready in time. Once at the airport, my best friend wished me well and I jetted off on this amazing adventure. Upon arrival in Montreal, I quickly deduced the first clue would be the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel. I jumped in the first cab I saw and raced over there. I raced inside the luxurious lobby and found the concierge for my next clue. The concierge made me answer a question about Dan and I. I needed to get it right in order to get my next clue! From there I raced around the Montreal Metro and found myself going to all the famous landmarks. The first stop was the Olympic Stadium then to Notre Dame Bascilica and then to St.Joseph's Oratory. Everything was going smoothly until I received my last clue to go to Chalet Mount Royal and look for the Kondiaronk Belvedere. This was a point on the mountain that overlooked the city on Montreal. I jumped in a cab, to soon find out the cab driver had no idea where this spot was. We drove all over Mount Royal, with no luck. Finally we reached a look out point on the top of the mountain. At this point I had had enough, I was so frustrated and just wanted to find Dan. I got out of the cab and started walking towards a church. At the church there were 3 Russian men. They could see how upset I was and asked if I needed help. I showed them the clue and they too had no idea where the Kondiaronk Belvedere was, but one man offered to give me a ride. I text Dan and told him to meet me back at the metro station and we could figure things out from there. When I first saw Dan at the Metro it was like he had been gone for years, I was so happy and excited to see him! He told me we had to go back to the Chalet. He had just been there and said I would love it. Even though I was skeptic, we jumped in another cab and headed to the lookout point. When we arrived it was freezing cold and snowing pretty heavily. We walked down the long path until we reached the view of the city. it was one of the most beautiful sites I had ever seen. Dan turned to me and said "Uou are the last team to arrive. I'm sorry to tell you, you've been eliminated from the race". I looked at him as he continued to say I would be receiving a consolation prize. That's when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I remember being so excited and happy, I quickly replied "YES!!!". |
