Ever since I can remember I have always loved everything Disney. Disney is so magical! And so was the proposal.. It all dates back to College where I first met my now fiancé, Ryan. I honestly can say it was love at first sight! Since that very moment we were practically inseparable. Shortly after we started dating, we moved in together. A few more years went by and we bought a condo in Mississauga.
Naturally, we proceeded to do what many couples do - merge all of our finances! It seemed like the most logical thing to do, though hind-sight being what it is, made me realize that trying to be secretive is anything but easy! My fiancé has always told me NOTHING ever gets by me. He's right - most of the time.. Luckily I happened to remain oblivious to his little scheme until he finally popped the question. It was late December of 2010. I was caught up in the bells and whistles of the season. While I preoccupied myself with all things Christmas, my fiancé planned the trip of a lifetime. Since I had complete access to all of our finances he had made me promise I wouldn't start snooping in our bank account to see what my Christmas surprise was. I couldn't help but curiously comb through pages of transactions - of course, it didn't help he was paying for everything in cash. So I was at a loss, and waited for my Christmas surprise to arrive. Due to the job my fiancé has, we often spend the holidays apart. I had gone up to my father's house for Christmas only to find out my fiancé had been there first. He had left a card for me, with instructions not to open until Christmas day. I opened it with great anticipation - BAM! A trip! We were going on a much needed vacation together. I was blown away. I had thought he was going to propose to me.. what with all that money he was spending?! Our trip began.. and was quickly coming to an end. It was the second last day on our trip. Our friends were camera-happy, but I paid them no attention. I was at DISNEY WORLD! Who doesn't get camera-happy? My fiancé found a beautiful place for a photo-opportunity.. in front of Cinderella's Castle. We started having some Disney photographers take our photo. We were asked to turn and face one-another. Of course I threw myself towards my man and grasped him tightly! He pushed me away. I rolled my eyes and looked away. As my head turned back I saw him down on one knee. My first reaction was, "Oh wow.. what a great photo! Hilarious...!" and then I glanced down and saw the box. He opened it.. and with what little breathe he had he blurted out my entire name (my initials are S.L.R.B.M.S.), which is a feat in itself! And all I could do was nod. I have never been so surprised in my entire life. And if nothing else, I left that day saying, "At Disney, dreams really do come true". |
