The Proposal
Every year, Megan and her family celebrate the Pittsburgh Holiday that is Pirates' Opening Day. This year, Megan and Mike were excited to share this tradition with Mike's dad and step-mom who were in town visiting to watch Mike coach. Or so Megan thought! After a week of stressing over cleaning the house and excitement over planning for their visit, Megan and Mike were a bit on edge when Big Tex and Terri arrived Wednesday afternoon. To say Megan was being a bit mean to Mike would be an understatement! On the morning of the Home Opener, Megan yelled at Mike because she thought he would rather be at his High School baseball game than going to the opener with her and their families. (Oops!) This crazy morning even involved a quick turnaround in Sewickley because Mike had forgotten the tickets! Finally, Megan, Mike, Big Tex, Terri and Megan and Mike's friend Brenda were on their way to PNC Park. They arrived at the "truck tunnel" to park and to Megan's surprise, her mom was not very happy to see her, and was in fact, quite rude! But, Megan thought nothing of it and they picked up the rest of their group and walked down to the park. It was explained to Megan that everyone would be sitting scattered around the ballpark because they couldn't find tickets in the same section together. This made perfect sense because the Home Opener is always a sell-out. Mike even had to buy a ticket the night before to sit by himself. Once Megan was seated with Amy and Brenda, she texted Mike and said, Do you want me to come visit?" To?"Sorry you have you have to sit by yourself. which he replied, "I'm FINE," which she thought was pretty rude so she thought, Forget Him! and continued watching the game. At the middle of the fourth inning, Megan was scanning the crowd for where her mom was sitting and all of a sudden, Brenda and Amy yelled, "LOOK AT THE DAMN BOARD!" And sure enough! Up on the scoreboard was a message that read, "Megan, Will you Marry Me? Love, Miguel" (Mike signs all of his cards and notes to Megan, "Miguel"). Not realizing at first what was going on, Megan looked to her left and there was Mike, on one knee with "THE RING." He said, "Will you Marry Me?" and though she doesn't remember saying the actual words "Yes" (it's on video though!), she does remember snatching that ring up as fast as she could! Then, with the ring on her finger, Megan looked around and realized that not only were Mike's dad and Terri there, but, his mom, her boyfriend, Rob and Mike's Aunt Kim and cousin Meagan were there as well! Her Aunt Janet was there, Janet's mom Nancy was there, her Uncle Denny was there, Megan and Mike's friends Todd and Julie were there, and not to mention, all of sections 308 and 309 were there cheering! Overwhelmed and incredibly excited, Megan looked for Mike, but he had already booked it out of there and headed to the concession area to have room to breathe! Megan and everyone else went out there to meet him, where he explained the story of how "THE RING" came to be. Our Proposal Video The Ring Megan's Ring is made up of many different diamonds. The diamond in the middle is one that Mike bought especially for Megan. The diamond on the left is a diamond from a ring that his paternal grandmother, Grandma Taft, gave him that was from her Aunt Mildred and had been passed down through the family. The diamond on the right is a diamond from Megan's maternal grandmother, from a ring that Megan's dad had made for her mom. The diamonds on the side (and the diamonds in the wedding band) are also from the two rings. Upon hearing this (and upon typing the explanation, and every time she thinks about it), Megan burst into tears and realized just how worth the wait this all was, and how lucky she is! |
