March 31, 2011 began like any other Thursday. I was in the middle of my day student teaching in Anderson, CA when I was asked to step outside with one of my aides to discuss one of the songs for the upcoming musical my special day class would be performing. When I came back inside my mentor teacher said that my students had something to read me. There was a letter projected on the smart board that they read together stating that I had been working really hard and deserved an afternoon to relax. They told me to leave immediately and head back to Chico, CA for a special lunch date.
When I arrived at my destination I was surprised to find my cousin there to greet me. She said she was told to meet someone too and she was happy it was me. We ate and caught up and before I knew it, our waitress was handing me an envelope with my name on it and telling us lunch had been taken care of. The letter inside told me to leave my car with my cousin and walk a block and a half to a nearby spa for some pampering. Confused but excited, I headed to my next destination. Upon arrival, I was greeted and immediately taken back for an hour massage, which was followed by a new set of nails, a pedicure and a spa capsule treatment. As I was getting out of the spa capsule, the salon technician handed me another envelope. This letter told me that my ride would be arriving shortly. When I turned around I saw a large man in a tuxedo standing in the doorway. He asked me to follow him and took outside to a waiting limo. When we arrived at my house he opened the door and handed me another envelope. The letter inside told me to get ready for dinner and to wear something nice, but make sure I had shoes I could walk in. The limo arrived back at my house promptly at 6:45. It was then that I knew that I was headed to the spot of our first date, a canyon overlooking all of Chico. When we arrived, the driver walked me across the street and asked me to follow the trail of roses. I looked ahead of me and saw a path laden with roses and rose petals. I walked down the path about a quarter of a mile and came to a spot with two roses crossed in the shape of an "X". That "X" marked the spot where I looked up and saw my boyfriend standing on a white platform overlooking the canyon. He came up to greet me, took my hand and walked me down the steep path to the platform. He sweetly asked me how my day had been, and through my tears I just laughed. Once on the platform he asked me to sit down on a small bench. He then knelt down on one knee and told me he had loved me since the moment he met me and wanted to love me for the rest of his life! I happily said, "YES!" We spent an hour quietly watching the sunset and drinking champagne before heading down to a local restaurant for dinner in an entire room rented just for us! It was the perfect romantic end to an amazing night! |
