After a long journey of waiting patiently for each other, the day finally came when my love, Joshua, asked to spend His life with me. Though falling in love has a story of its own, I will only share of the most recent chapter of our story: the day Joshua proposed to me. While we were in Rocky Point, Mexico on a mission trip, we stayed in a beach house with several others. Saturday night, everyone left for the market place, leaving Joshua and I alone to enjoy the beach together. The Mexico mission trips have always had a special place in my heart because Joshua and I first met on the same mission trip only five years ago. Walking hand in hand along the silent beach, the sun gently dipped into the water on the horizon, leaving a beautiful spread of soft red and orange colors across the sky. Occasionally, a cool breeze would blow through my hair as I breathed in the fresh ocean air. "Nothing could be wonderful at this moment," I thought. Joshua looked tenderly into my eyes as we moseyed barefoot through the sand, sharing with me how grateful he was to have me by his side. Distracted by his smile, I was nearly oblivious to a white envelope, half exposed and half buried in the sand. Joshua prodded me to reach for it, hinting it was strategically placed for me. Opening the envelope, I uncovered a letter, which had been written to God; a prayer, actually. Tears filling my eyes, I read the prayer Joshua had written to God about his love for me on the day first day we met. Joshua knew I was the one for him and asked God, in the letter, to give him patience to wait for me, the girl he would someday marry. We kissed for a moment and continued walking until I came across another letter, half buried in the sand. This letter had been written several years after the first. The letter was yet another prayer Joshua wrote, asking God to prepare us for each other because, he prayed, the time for us to be married would come soon. With the sun disappearing almost entirely into the water, I hugged Joshua tightly. I found one more letter in sand; a recent prayer Joshua wrote, thanking God for gift he had in me. Joshua said he had one more last gift to give me. Taking a few more steps, I uncovered a journal, buried beneath an "X" in the sand. "The Life-Story of Michelle and Joshua" was written on the cover. Before I could say anything, Joshua bent down on one knee, pulling a beautiful ring from his pocket, sharing, "I want more than anything to spend the rest of my life writing the chapters of our life story together in the pages of this journal. Michelle Joan, will you marry me?" Of course, I wanted nothing more than to be his wife! We are now planning to be married in June, 2012! |
