"I have always wanted to go to Manhattan, New York since I was little. Imagining the bright lights off the New York skyline, the liveliness of the city, and the statue of liberty... all with the Jay Z ft Alicia Keys "Empire State of Mind" blasting in the background. My fiance Tomasz knew how much I wanted to go and decided to surprise me with a weekend getaway to Manhattan. When he told me, I was extremely excited and had been looking forward to the trip for weeks. My fiance had booked the weekend of our 7th year anniversary to go, but he told me that we were celebrating our birthdays. Our birthdays are only 10 days apart, so I bought his story and didn't think anything of it. The first night we got to New York after a 13 hour drive, my fiance seemed anxious and somewhat distracted. I thought it was from the long drive and all the traffic, so I decided to go across the street from our hotel to get some food for us. I debated whether or not I should take the room key, but my fiance reassured me he would open the door for me when I got back. I ended up taking about half an hour before I got back to the room. When I got off the elevator, I could see our room from where I was. The door was decorated and I knew something was up. I knocked on the door and my fiance poked his head out and gave me the room key. He told me to count to 5 and then open the door. I figured I was going to get some romantic "sexy time", so I counted to 5 and opened the door. To my complete surprise, when I entered I found the entire room decorated with white balloons, white draping, candles, and a long aisle extending from the door to the windows. At the end of the aisle was my fiance, standing and staring at me as I walked towards him. When I got closer to him, he started to bend down on one knee and opened the ring box. I was so excited that I couldn't remember everything he said. All I remember was "Eva, I love you. I have been wanting to do this for a long time now. You are the only one I picture myself with...." The rest was muffled by my screams and squeals and my fiance had forgotten what he said as well because he was so nervous. I could feel him shaking as I hugged him. And after 7 years, we still had butterflies. Of course I said "YES!" and having the engagement on the first night in Manhattan was a great start to my dream trip." | ||||
