After a quick but incredibly eventful 6 months of dating, the engagement was going to fall nothing short of how exciting our relationship had been to that point. A couple who is constantly inspired by loving extraordinarily well in all facets of life to all people, I knew Jeff would be up to something incredible when the time rolled around for the proposal. But, I had no idea that it would come when it did. I was home in Florida with my family for the holidays, as Jeff was flying in to enjoy the end of the winter break and New Year's Eve with me. I had a thin suspicion in my head that it may be coming over the holidays, but I was quick to withdraw those thoughts so I didn't get my hopes up too soon. Meanwhile, Jeff was deep into his mischievous plan of the perfect proposal. On Saturday December 29th, 2012 I left to the airport with my brother, Jeff's best friend, to pick him up and make it home for an already planned party to kick off his time here right. Unfortunately, I woke up with little time to get ready, and was rushed out the door by my family, as they all knew what was soon to occur.
The previous weeks before the big day, Jeff had been throwing all sorts of ideas around on how to make this huge moment in both our lives a story to tell for a lifetime. The week before it was all to happen, he had smoothed the plans out, and coordinated well with all my closest family and friends to be at the airport for the proposal. After making the big call to my Dad to ask for his blessing, he was a sure go ... The day before the proposal, Jeff and his mom scurried throughout Houston to get a few things in order. A short stop at the flower shop, a quick trip to Walgreens and a few pep talks from family and friends it was game on. The morning he left to fly to Florida, he woke up extra early to make the finishing touches. Seventy roses packed into a carry-on bag, check, six roses with pictures attached and a sweet note of key moments in our relationship, check, a quick love you and a hug from teary eyed parents and he was off. After a few brief scares going through security, a one hour plane delay and getting the courage to truly step out of his comfort zone, everything began to fall in place. Chris and I made the short trip to the airport, and were their way too early for my taste. But Chris was all grins and continued to try and hide his excitement with corny jokes. Meanwhile, my family and best friends loaded into a car and headed to the airport to hide and share the moment with Jeff and I. As Jeff got in the plane, he stepped into the pilot's cabin and asked if he could use the passengers help on his proposal. With a quick and excited yes, the plane was off. After food was served, Jeff went to the front of the plane and got on the intercom. "I am planning to propose to my girlfriend, and need y'alls help!!!" Twenty minutes later, he had passed out all of his seventy roses to the passengers on the plane. As Chris and I waited outside of security for Jeff's plane, we began to get uneasy because of his delay. But, out of nowhere, a random lady walked up to me with a red rose, "Are you Brittany Bresson?" My heart fluttered, and I said "yes??" Before I could say another word, another rose, and another... Soon I was standing there with a bundle of roses clasped in my arms. I began to feel queasy, and kept asking Chris what was happening. Only to his befuddling response, "It's probably a Christmas gift ..." I was beginning to become short of breath, my eyes welled up with tears, and then came Jeff pacing around the corner out from his plane. "Brittany Michelle Bresson, you mean everything to me, and I can't imagine another day without you. Will you marry me?" "YES!!!!!" |
