My name is Vanessa Jech and my fiance', Trevor, and I are getting married in June 2013. I absolutely cannot wait to marry him and as I share our engagement story I'm sure you'll understand why. So here it is:
When I was a little girl I loved it when my daddy read me fairytales. In any fairytale, the girl always meets prince charming who is everything that she has ever wanted in a guy, he's perfect. Not only did I believe that I would one day find my prince charming, but this was exactly what my dad's expectations of any guy in my life were; he'd have to pretty much be perfect. As I grew up I began to realize that fairytales were a lot different from real life and prince charming set the standards pretty high for any ordinary guy. That was when I met Trevor. He made me believe in fairytales again because he treated me like a princess and was everything I ever wanted in a guy, he was perfect in my eyes. There were many times that I thought I was dreaming or in some fairytale and I kept waiting for reality to hit. It was almost unbelievable that someone could be so perfect and make me so happy. After dating for about a year, Trevor convinced me to go on a trip with him. I was just out of college, but was still planning to continue on with my education and didn't think I needed to spend money to go on a trip. He somehow persuaded me to go by telling me that I could pay him back later. Since neither of us had been able to go on vacations growing up and since I was starting back full time with school in the fall I decided it was our only chance. So off we went to Boston, MA to watch a Redsox/Yankees game and see Fenway Field, which was a dream vacation for us both. It was only a four day trip, but we both had so much planned we wanted to do and see. After touring for a couple of days we were heading to Boston Harbor for a sunset sail that we had scheduled before going to Boston. I of course was making us run late (like most girls), but Trevor was patient with me and we made it right on time to meet Captain Chris. That's when I realized that Captain Chris had his own private sailboat and it was just going to be Trevor and I on the sunset sail! I had our new and very nice camera out (that Trevor bought before the trip claiming it was my early birthday gift) and was already taking pictures. We'd been out sailing for about an hour, had some wine, and just as the sun was about to set Captain Chris offered to take a picture of us. He snapped one picture and just before snapping another picture Trevor turned and told me how much he loved me. I said that I loved him too, but I was distracted because all I could think about was how rude we were being since Captain Chris was waiting to take our picture. Trevor proceeded to say things that I can't recall because I only caught the words "will you marry me". I was so surprised and shocked by the ring he was holding out in front of me that I was left speechless for the first time in my life. When I finally choked out some words, all I said was, "is this for real?" I kissed him and (thought) I said yes, even though he claims I never did so I excitedly reassured him my answer was yes! The rest of the sunset sail was incredible because I was in the middle of such a beautiful view and was going to get to marry my best friend. After returning to shore, we decided to freshen up at the hotel and go out to celebrate. To my surprise when arriving to our room, Trevor had arranged for there to be champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and rose petals everywhere. My fairytale kept getting better and this real-life prince charming was blowing all the ones from those fairytale books away! All I wanted to do at that moment was call my family and friends, but I was so torn to whether I wanted to tell them over the phone or wait until we could tell them all in person. Apparently, Trevor knows me pretty well and knew that I wouldn't be able to wait, but also knew how hard it would be to not to tell them all in person. That's when he pulled out two custom designed t-shirts he had made for me! One shirt said, "I'm Engaged! Boston 2012" and the other shirt said, "The Future Mrs. Wilczek". It was perfect. I put the shirts on and took pictures with my phone that I could send to all my family and friends while holding up my ring! I couldn't believe he had put so much thought into making the evening so special for me! It was all like a fairytale. A fairytale that was even better than any I had ever read. I think I can say I definitely found my prince charming. I am so lucky to get to spend the rest of my life with the most amazing man in the world! He put so much time, thought, and effort into making our engagement special. Plus, my ring is absolutely gorgeous! I love him more than words could ever describe! Oh yeah, and the other man in my life, my dad, he approves! |
