My fiancee and I met 7 years ago in Film School, I had just moved to Toronto for school and didn't know many people out there and spent a lot of time watching and re-watching my Gilmore Girls DVDs. Little did I know that I would later experience one of the best GG moments for myself - with a proposal that was truly perfect for me.
We have been dating for over 6 years, living together for 5 & 1/2, and I had picked out "the" ring more than a year ago. The only questions that remain in my mind are "How?!" and "When is he gonna do it already?!?!". It's a beautiful June morning when he tells me that his parents are going to come downtown for lunch with us. I really didn't think much of this, it wasn't the first time that they had made the 40 min. drive to have a meal with us. So I get ready to go out, and he informs me that they will be late. He suggests that to pass the time we should take a walk along the beach (we only live 5 minutes up the street) and enjoy the great weather. I think it's a great idea - so we start walking. And walking. And walking. We've been walking around for nearly an hour and a half when I start getting really annoyed that his parents are SO late! I say that I'm getting too warm and tired to keep walking, and want to wait at home for his SUPER late parents. We're almost home and up ahead, just across the street from our house, is a young gentleman playing guitar and singing a really beautiful song (very much like a troubadour - GG fans!) which I didn't realize the full meaning of until about 15 minutes later... Anyways, we pass the 'troubadour' and make our way up to our house when I stop dead in my tracks. There are about half a dozen daisies strewn across our front steps. My reaction to this: "How did those get here? Someone had to have put them there, they wouldn't have just blown over here! This is really freaking me out! I'm freaked out right now hunny!" He just smiles at me quizzically and motions for me to go inside. I open the door to thousand yellow daisies. Well over a thousand yellow daisies are staring back at me, and I know immediately what it meant (as any GG fan would)! I can't believe it! He's actually doing it!! There are cards in some of the pots, describing things like our first date and our first kiss - each with an arrow beside it pointing me on through the path of daisies. I reach the last one and read: "And today is the day that I ask you to marry me, and you say..." He reaches behind the card and pulls out the long-awaited ring box, gets down on one knee and I blurt out, "YES! Of course, yes!". "You didn't even let me ask!!" he responds. So as he gets up to put the ring on my finger I make him get back down and properly wait for him to ask before I give the same answer! After a long embrace and many excited kisses, he tells me that we have to go - there's somewhere we need to be. He takes me down the street to one of our favourite restaurants and holds the door open for me to enter first. As soon as I'm inside I burst into tears of joy - all of my family and friends (none of whom live closer than 3 hours, and one who flew up from Virginia!) are here to congratulate us! I couldn't have asked for a more perfect moment, it was amazing. We all hug and dry our happy tears and enjoy a delicious meal! But he wasn't done yet... When everyone was done lunch he hands me a card, and it says that good things come to those who wait - today I'm eating lunch in Toronto, and tonight I'll be eating dinner in Orlando! He hands me a second card with Mickey Mouse on the front, and inside are tickets to Disney World (where I had never been, and complained about this often) - our flight leaves in 4 hours! We spent the next week in the land of the Mouse, talking about our now-official future wedding plans and having an amazing time. This was definitely one for the record books, in my opinion. There's not a thing that I would change. Now the only thing that's left is to plan a wedding that lives up to the proposal! I think we're on the right track though. |
