Here is how it happened for us :) Brad & Jessica (together since Feb 2009)
My birthday weekend we were going back home to Nova Scotia (for thanksgiving) and Brad wanted to do something for me with just the two of us. We just moved to Toronto on May 31st, and hadn't really had a chance to just relax and do get away since moving here. We love being in the city, but we wanted a weekend getaway that wasn't too far from home. His boss mentioned to him how great Blue Mountain Resort was, so he had mentioned it to me a month or two before my birthday just saying it would be "nice" to do something like that "some time". I said maybe in the fall even, once things settle down a bit (I just started a new job at the end of August). So, we ended up deciding that we would go to Blue Mountain for the weekend before my birthday. The leaves would still be very pretty and it wouldn't be cold yet. He called about four weeks in advance, and, unfortunately it was completely booked, they only had rooms left for six people, definitely not something we needed! Disappointed, we decided maybe November would just be best. One weekend when my cousin was visiting in September, we were all sitting in the living room and Brad got a call on his cell phone. He looks at it, confused, answers, acts very strange, mentions his boss' name, asks if he can call her back and hangs up. I asked him who it was (he is a terrible liar - not a bad thing!) and he said, "Oh, the girl from Blue Mountain. She was just returning my call because (his boss) referred me to them." It made sense because it fit, but at the same time I asked him why he didn't just talk to her and he "didn't want to be rude with Lindsay (my cousin) here." Lindsay and I both agreed that it sounded fishy, but she said to me that maybe he was surprising me and had actually already booked Blue Mountain that weekend. So, after we dropped her off at the airport, Brad said that he would call her back, and she didn't answer so he left a message on her voicemail (this was actually him calling his work voicemail). He tells me a couple of days later that the woman at Blue Mountain couldn't really do anything for him - so since it was only a small difference in money he would just book the 6 person suite instead. It wasn't enough to really deter us from booking. So, super excited, we get to look forward to a weekend away at Blue Mountain! Right after check-in, the first thing we did after dropping off our bags was go on the gondola ride up the mountain. It was beautiful - all the leaves changing, seeing the entire village, the lake, and much more. However, we were both a little nervous. Neither of us are too fond of heights, and this thing had a grate for a floor so you could see through it! We stood very still on the way up but it was definitely more relaxing as time went on. Once at the top of the mountain, we went for a little stroll because I wanted to see some of the look offs. Took a couple of pictures, and headed back to the gondola to go back down the mountain. Little did I know, about one minute into the ride he just started kissing me then got down on one knee. Told me how much he loves me and asked me if I wanted to marry him! Of course I said yes, after stupidly asking him if he was joking, and some guy on the gondola behind us saw it and cheered "Yeah! wooo!" and clapped, which made it pretty funny. When we got to the bottom he told me that he had called my mom, dad and brother and let them all know what was happening/to ask permission. I thought this was really sweet. We both don't remember the rest of the ride down - so the next day we had to get on again :) The next weekend was exciting for us - going back to Nova Scotia to tell all of our closest friends and family the big news, but it was hard to keep it to ourselves for a week! :) |
