Jenn and Cliff Proposal Story - A Trip to The Light

Sunday March 10th, 2013, Cliff took Jenn on an adventure that she would never soon forget. For two weeks Cliff had been planning his proposal to Jenn, with the help of his sister, Emma, his brother-in-law, Troy, and his 2 yr 9 mo old nephew, Carter. After initial proposal plans went awry, Cliff knew this was his opportunity to make it magical- and he did. Jenn felt surprisingly languid on Sunday morning. She seemed tired and drained. Little did she know that as she slept soundly during a mid-morning nap, gears were in motion that would change her life forever. Troy was at Heber Downs Conservation Area setting up a Narnia-esque lamp post and setting up hidden cameras that would capture the moment as it happened. Cliff secretly gave the go to Emma, who then called and said that she was taking Carter for a walk at Heber Downs, and asked if Cliff and Jenn would like to join them. Knowing that Jenn has a ridiculous soft spot for Carter, everyone knew no matter how low Jenn was feeling, she would not refuse. I feel it important to add at this point that Jenn had been completely wretched throughout that week. She knew the ring was coming and felt overwhelmed by anticipation. In trying to figure out Cliff's plans, she nearly drove herself mad, yet failed to point out explicit clues that dangled right in front of her face. While getting ready for her walk, Jenn threw on a pair of yoga pants and runners. Cliff laughed at her wearing yoga pants and suggested that maybe she wear something else. Jenn scoffed it off, "We're just going for a walk in the woods!" she scolded. Finally, they met Emma and Carter at Heber Downs who had been waiting there for 20 minutes prior. Thank goodness for Finding Nemo on DVD. As the four walked down the path surrounded by towering bare trees and thick white snow, Jenn still had no idea what was in store for her as she nervously sipped her Tim Hortons coffee and made sure her puppy, Toffee, didn't trip anyone with her leash. "I won a free coffee!" Cliff exclaimed, as he rolled up the rim on his cup. "You're so lucky! I never win anything!" said Jenn, still walking. Finally, Emma, Carter, Cliff and Jenn approached a little bridge with running water beneath it. Hidden atop a small snow covered hill stood a lamp post. "Look over there!"said Cliff, "Doesn't it look like Narnia?" Jenn looked up at the lamp post and said, "yeah, that's cool!" and continued toward the bridge. Cliff urged her to climb up the hill for a closer look at the lamp. Hesitantly, Jenn climbed up and suggested that mayhaps she steal the lamp post as it would be perfect to have as part of her Narnia themed wedding. Suddenly, Cliff dropped to one knee. Stunned, Jenn started laughing hysterically. "Not here! Now? Not here!" she said as she tried to hide her face behind the lamp post. She spotted Troy hidden in the trees. She knew this was the moment but for some reason could not compose herself to hear a word her future fiance was saying. Jenn heard something about "happy" and "life's adventures" and "will you marry me". Cliff pulled out the ring. It was perfect! It glistened in the shaded sunlight that was peaking through the barren trees looking down on them. They were engaged! After telling Emma and Troy how sneaky they were and that they were a family of ninjas, Jenn felt ecstatic to be gaining a sister, a brother, and a nephew. Before walking back, Jenn rolled up her rim from her coffee cup, she won a free coffee too! What a perfectly Canadian proposal story! Snow, ice, and two winning coffees from TIm Hortons! Cliff and Jenn can't wait to spend the rest of their lives with each other and combine their two loving families as one. |
