My fiance Kenny and I are high school sweethearts. We met when we were sixteen and have been together ever since - 13 years. This past February, he gave me the ultimate birthday surprise. Months before, he just told me "We're going away for your birthday, but I'm not telling you where." All he told me was what kind of clothes to pack. They were the same season type clothes, so I didn't think we were going anywhere far. Boy was I wrong..
The day we were leaving, there was a really bad snow storm. He seemed so stressed out about it but I kept assuring him that the snow would stop and we could make the drive (which he told me was 40 minutes). My parents ended up driving us, which I was confused about, but I learned it was because they were driving us to the airport! I had no idea I was taking a plane and even had to take out some stuff from my suitcase to send back home with my parents. Thank goodness the snow stopped and the runway was clear. Our flight wasn't canceled. He was clever enough to keep everything from me. He had previously grabbed my passport with me knowing. I didn't know where we were going until we were on the actual plane and I heard over the loudspeaker: "Welcome aboard Delta Flight 400 to Paris." Omg I was so shocked and I cried nonstop! He even recorded my whole reaction. We arrived in Paris on my birthday, which is on Valentine's Day. We had dinner that night then went sight seeing the next day. On our way to the Louvre museum, he led me to this bridge across the street. It was full of locks that couples write their names on and lock to the bridge. I had never heard of this before and he explained to me that afterward, they throw the key in the water and it symbolizes that they'll be together forever. I loved the idea and got so excited! I was disappointed that we didn't bring a lock but he pulled one out of his pocket, along with a sharpie! I wrote our names on the lock, hooked it up to the bridge, and threw the key in the water. He recorded that too. After, he said the most beautiful things to me and got down on one knee. I immediately started crying again and screamed "Yes!" about three times! I don't even remember people being around us but I heard clapping after he put the ring on my finger and we hugged and kissed. I couldn't believe he proposed to me in Paris, on the Love Lock Bridge, the day after my 29th birthday/Valentine's Day! It was so worth the wait! The whole thing was so romantic and I will never forget it. Every time I look at my ring, all the emotions come flooding back. After 13 years together I really can't wait to marry him. He truly is my best friend, and my everything. |
