Jon and I started dating a little while before the Olympics, we quickly became best friends and knew that we wanted to get married. We had looked at rings online and I had a sneaking suspicion that he would propose sometime between September and December but wasn't sure when...
At 10:00 am on Sept 4th Jon called me and told me where to find a note that he had hidden in my closest, then hung up. I found and read the sweetest note telling me to get ready am meet him at out favorite local mountain at noon. I arrived to find Jon is sitting there with a picnic basket. We had a delicious picnic that he had made and he read me the last of "the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe" which we had started reading the month before. When he'd just about finished he placed a note on my stomach ended with "Let me know when you're ready and we'll move on". We arrive downtown 30 mins later and rented out darling old-fashioned bicycles go for a ride around the seawall. (The seawall goes under my favorite bridge, and by Prospect Point, where my grandparents got engaged). On the way we came across a game of cricket, an outdoor art exhibition and the outdoor tanks the Vancouver aquarium. After, we headed to a very upscale Belgian restaurant (actually the first restaurant we ever went to:) for dinner. I entered nervously aware of my informal biking attire. The moment we sat down the waiter came with two bags for us, and I was delighted to find my three favorite dresses, two pairs of shoes and accessories. Although Jon insisted it was "elves" who'd packed my bag, I later found out my it was my mother (who had been away until that morning, and so must've packed it the week before!). After dinner the last line of note Jon placed on the table read "but we can't have dessert at the place we just ate, can we?", and he blindfolded me and off we went. When we arrived at the gazebo in the park by my house, Jon's friends (who dropped him off at the mountain and our clothes at the restaurant). Had set up white lights all along the top and over a table bearing another note, a bouquet of lilies and roses and my favorite chocolate cake (which my mom and made for the "neighbors" that morning). After dessert, we got up and Jon told me to look at one of the lights in the distance, his last note he passed to me from behind me, and it read "turn around". I turned to find him on one knee with a the ring. I, of course, said yes :) We are getting married next year on my grandparents 50th anniversary and I couldn't be more excited! |
