To the top of the world for the promise of a lifetime; the night I will never forget!
Ryan and I are both athletic and huge sports fans. We have been together for 3 years but had not discussed marriage because we both were just having so much fun being together (although I had definitely thought about it). Ryan and I got tickets to go to the Blue Jays home opener. This was exciting, but nothing out of the ordinary since we are both such big sports fans. Not only did we have tickets, but the tickets were VIP. We drove from Muskoka to Toronto for the game. We had a fabulous night. The Roger's Center was sold out and the opening ceremonies were spectacular. Now I know what you're thinking... the big screen! No no, that would not have suited either one of us. Unfortunately for Ryan, the opening ceremonies took a while so the game started late. This made Ryan nervous because his whole plan included us going up the CN tower after the game. Since the game started late, the game was not going to end before the CN tower stops letting people up. Ryan was quick on his feet and convinced me that we should probably leave early and beat the crowds of people out of the Roger's Center. He suggested we go up the CN tower, since he had never been, and watch the end of the game in the restaurant at the top. I agreed, so we left early and went to the CN tower. When we got to the CN tower, they informed us that both restaurants at the top were booked so we could not go in to watch the end of the game. I suggested we just go somewhere else, but Ryan REALLY wanted to go to the top. ;) We went through the metal detector (this made Ryan's heart race a little with the surprise in his pocket) and we went up to the top. Once we got there Ryan rushed to the washroom to prepare the ring. I had no idea why he was taking so long, and assumed he must have felt sick since he does not like elevators very much. I felt a little bit concerned, but being myself, I started making conversation with other people near the glass floor and tried to scare them by telling them the entire floor is glass. Still at this point I had no idea what was coming! Ryan finally emerged from the washroom and suggested we go outside on the observation deck. It was the perfect night and we could see all the lights across the city. I was excited and wanted to see if we could see across the lake to Burlington, where my family is from. When Ryan finally got my attention I got the surprise of my life. At the top of the world on the perfect night, overlooking the beautiful lights, Ryan got down on one knee and showed me the most beautiful ring I have ever seen. He said he wanted to complete what we had started and spend the rest of our lives together and asked me to marry him. I believe I responded by saying something like "No f***ing way" but this was purely out of surprise and excitement. I followed that by saying yes about a million times and sealing the deal with a kiss! Everything was a complete surprise and throughout the night Ryan rolled with many unexpected glitches in his plan, but I could not have imagined a more perfect proposal to a more perfect person! Oh... and the Jays won! We are both very excited to be planning our big day for next summer. |
