Kyle and I met at school in Kona, Hawaii. We attended school for three months and then went on a three month missions trip to South Africa. There were many different countries to choose from for the missions trip but we both ended up on the same team. We slowly got to know each other throughout the three months and at the very end of the trip on a beach watching the sunset Kyle asked me out.
I live in Canada and Kyle is from the States so our long distance relationship began. I have never experienced something so hard in my entire life. We are both very thankful for skype. We got to know each other on a deeper level every night at 6 o'clock. We would skype for hours and do the same the next day. Our next visit was 2 months later when he flew over for my sisters grad. We spent ten days together when we had to part again. our next visit was another 1 1/2 later when I went to Pennslvania to meet his family. Little did i know the next time I would visit he would pop the question. He arrived at the airport at midnight to pick me up. That's the best feeling, walking through the gate looking through the crowd and seeing him there with flowers. It's always like a movie...without the slow motion running. Being apart is extremely hard but it has made us appreciate every single minute we have together. So now to the good part! My birthday was coming up so when I got in the car he told me to look in the glove box for my present. No, no it wasn't that easy the ring wasn't in the car. Instead I found a piece of paper with my first clue. He had written out a riddle for me to solve. The first riddle answer led back to a parking lot we had sat in during our last trip to Niagra Falls. It was 2am and I was looking high and low for my next clue. I finally found it and it led to an ice cream shop in his hometown. By the time we made it to the shop it was two days later. I think i must have bad timing because it seemed like I was always searching for my clues in the dark! Hidden in a river bank was my next clue, I had to decode the riddle and go to a park hidden in the woods where I found my next clue. Then all of a sudden he stopped leading me to find clues. I figured he had it all planned out so i didn't say much. Then before we knew it Saturday (my birthday) was upon us, It was mid afternoon when Kyle said he had to leave for a bit to check on my present. He came back in a half an hour and told me that we had a lot of clues to find so we better get started. The last clue I had solved led to a meadow in the middle of nowhere. It was the place we would lay and just talk. When we arrived I started running like a goof yelling about how i better hurry since we have more clues. I found the clue hidden in the branches of a peach tree and started reading it aloud. It began with a clever rhyme and as a I read it my eyes jumped to the end which read "Will you be my wife?" I spun around to see him on one knee and a ring box. Yes, my man is quite the romantic. It's been quite the journey and we're still going. Being young we don't have a lot of funds but we are having fun trying to save money. We are set to get married in June. I can't wait for us to be in the same country, it'll be a gift in itself to see him every day. |
